The Role
As a Senior Product Designer at Nitro, you’ll play a key role in shaping complex product experiences that balance user needs, business outcomes, and technical feasibility. You’ll operate with a high degree of autonomy, partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to drive clarity, alignment, and quality across the product lifecycle.
You’re a role model for Nitro’s ways of working - bringing deep design and research expertise, sound judgment, and an inclusive, collaborative mindset. You’ll help elevate both the work and the people around you.
What You’ll Be Doing
Practice
- Lead end-to-end product design across complex journeys and systems, delivering high-quality, accessible, and performant experiences.
- Independently plan, conduct, and synthesise user research using appropriate generative and evaluative methods.
- Translate research insights into clear, scalable artefacts that inform design decisions and enable shared learning.
- Use mapping, prototyping, and facilitation to explore ambiguity, connect user needs to business goals, and guide teams through discovery.
- Visualise end-to-end journeys and service experiences, considering offline touchpoints, accessibility, and system constraints.
- Apply strong judgment in balancing user value, business priorities, and technical feasibility.
- Contribute as a subject matter expert, providing thoughtful critique and guidance across disciplines.
Culture
- Model Nitro’s standards, policies, and cultural norms through inclusive, ethical, and collaborative ways of working.
- Foster strong cross-functional relationships and actively bridge gaps between Product, Engineering, and other teams.
- Proactively mentor and support less experienced designers and researchers, helping them grow their skills and confidence.
- Strengthen the operational health of the team by improving rituals, workflows, tools, and templates.
- Connect day-to-day work to broader company goals, helping others understand the “why” behind priorities.
- Encourage experimentation, welcome failure as a learning opportunity, and promote continuous feedback and improvement.
- Adapt to change with resilience and help teams navigate ambiguity with clarity and optimism.
What We’re Looking For
- Extensive experience (typically 5+ years or equivalent) in product design, user experience, or related disciplines.
- Deep fluency in human-centred design and user research methods, with the ability to choose and adapt approaches based on context.
- Proven ability to independently own complex problem spaces and deliver impactful, well-reasoned solutions.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and storytelling skills, with experience aligning diverse stakeholders.
- Confidence working cross-functionally and influencing outcomes without direct authority.
- A creative, systems-oriented problem-solver who considers risks, trade-offs, and multiple perspectives.
- Experience mentoring others and contributing to team health and design maturity.
- Comfort operating in changing environments and a willingness to continuously learn and evolve.
